How Lloyd’s insurers are investing sustainably in a polarised world

Antony ,

Kasha Mleko, head of sustainability for New England Asset Management Limited (NEAM Ltd.), walks us through the trends behind the numbers in NEAM's latest Lloyd's Investment Survey.

It found that, while sustainability is now embedded within most (81%) syndicates' investment strategy and the vast majority (84%) are expecting similar or increasing scrutiny on sustainability from stakeholders, green labelled bond issuance is down and insurers are looking elsewhere to invest with impact. Often this can be achieved by pivoting core portfolios towards sectors that inherently drive resilience, transition or social impact but whose assets may not necessarily have a green label.

Kasha also explained some of the constraints Lloyd's syndicates face when implementing a sustainability strategy, plus challenges and opportunities in deploying climate scenarios.
